Kenzie Groot: Training w/ Intention During Pregnancy & Postpartum

June 2021

Kenzie Groot, M.S, CF-L2, Certified Pre- & Postnatal Coach I am a mom (4 & 3 yo), wife, athlete, coach, & advocate for women's health throughout pregnancy and postpartum. I received my Master's degree in Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in Coaching Wellness from the University of Utah in 2011. There, I met my husband, Dr. Jon Groot, who is now professor of Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology at the University of Utah. We started our family in his final year of graduate work and when I was very much of the "look what I can do while pregnant" phase. During the 22 months between my children, I dove head first into learning how to train while pregnant and what steps I could take to bring intensity back into my training postpartum. I struggled with the stark difference between the quick recovery and the 'bouncing back' mentality our society promotes for postpartum bodies and what I was studying about training with intention. As my studies continue, I advocate for women in this season of their life and beyond. You can find me outside nearly every season in Park City, I love to mountain bike, hike, skin up PCMR in the winter, and adventure with my family in our camper.
